Monthly society meetings continue in the New Year (Jan 7th) with a presentation by society member Paul Cass on the Anglo-Australian Schmidt telescope facility.  The venue is Whitby School (formally Caedmon College - Nornanby Campus, formally Whitby College) Prospect Hill. The venue title is what most local people from the 70s to the 2000s would associate with that site. Start time is 7:30pm.

Society meetings in 2025 kicks off in style on January 7th with a presentation by WDAS member Paul Cass who will be giving a presentation on the Anglo-Schmidt telescope facility, where Paul once worked.  Really looking forward to this, so a great turn-out would be most appreciated, it should be most fascinating.  

We shall also be taking a quick look at what is happening in the January night sky – potentially a great deal!

Society meetings normally take place are on the 1st Tuesday each month from October to May (January is sometimes 2nd Tuesday - School break reasons - but not this year) and April is dependent on the School Easter break. 

If you are new to the area and would like to join the society or have become interested in the night sky and want to take 'one small step', please do come along, you will be very welcome. 

The Monthly meeting in February is on Tues 4th.

Sunday evening open nights at the Bruce Observatory continue, a 7pm start time.  They are weather dependant, so if you are intending on coming along, please contact Mark on the day, the conditions at Whitby can be very different to inland, or further up or down the coast!  The observatory (the conical domed building) is also located at Whitby School - at the bottom of the drive.  

For anyone wishing to come along, please be at the school top carpark for 7pm if possible as the security gate for the drive is operated via keycode and closes automatically after being opened.  Only the 'guardians of the gate' have the code.  Anyone arriving later will need to attract our attention within the observatory (flash car lights, pip horn, or shout). We will notice. January dates are 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th.
