WDAS monthly meetings conclude for this current season, the last meeting before the summer break being on May 7th. The venue is Caedmon College - Normanby Campus (formerly Whitby College) - room H1 starting at 7:30pm.

If you are new to the area and would like to join the society or have become interested in the night sky and want to take 'one small step', please do come along, you will be very welcome.

In our final meeting before the summer recess, we shall review the total solar eclipse of April 8th, observed from the United States and Canada, say farewell to Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, and look ahead to the return of summer deep sky objects observers should try not to dismiss or overlook despite the light nights.

Let us hope the weather improves for the summer star party season.  The early summer months always present a problem regarding public star parties.  This year is even more problematic with no planets on view at all until late summer!  This leaves just the Moon to aim at with at best just a couple of events per month until August.

There will be only one pencilled in event for May – on Saturday 18th.  This will be a lunar party, perhaps with a solar twist if sunspots are visible.  Starting time is 20:30hrs BST. Whitby West Cliff – near Cpt Cook’s monument as usual.
