M33 or Pinwheel Galaxy is found in Triangulum and lies approximately 3 million light years away. M33 shares its nickname of the pinwheel with M101 in Ursa Major.
M33 is the third largest member of the local galaxies which includes Andromeda Galaxy, our own Milky Way and a further 44 other smaller Galaxies. In exceptional viewing conditions M33 like the Andromeda Galaxy can be seen with the naked eye though I suspect never from Whitby. Been a defuse object its visability can be effected by small amounts of light pollution. It ranges from been easily visible by direct vision in dark skies to a difficult averted vision object in rural or suburban skies. Why not pop out yourself and give it a try and see how you would class it from your own back yard.
