This should have been our first scheduled event to go ahead this summer. Coinciding with very warm conditions, a setting Sun to scrutinise for sunspots and a rising, almost full Moon, everything looked set fair. True, observing would very much have been limited to these two celestial bodies with planets still not available until after midnight. Light evenings would also render all but the brightest stars invisible until after 23:00hrs, but it would be an outing.
Mark had already organised to meet Keith, Brian and John on the West Cliff by 20:20hrs, and having loaded the car was ready to go. Then from nowhere Mark was struck down with a bug and incapacitated, (certainly ready to go! - talk about bad timing). Hasty calls/emails ensued with Keith venturing up to the West Cliff to double check the outcome, meeting Brian and snapping a few pictures of the setting sun. A missed opportunity then, but one that could not be avoided.
