Whitby & District Astronomical Society was established in 1997 meeting once a month - usually first Tuesday from October to May at Whitby School - Whitby from 7:30pm. The society also utilises the Bruce Observatory located at Whitby School on Sunday evening from mid-October to mid-April.
Over the years the society has hosted hundreds of Star Party events giving thousands of people the opportunity to view through the eyepiece at the wonders of the night sky. Supporting local festivals, the society also supports a growing number of outreach events - hosts star evenings for primary schools and supports 'Dark Sky' festival events run by the North Yorkshire Moors National Parks Authority and other organisations.
Over the years the society has organised trips to many space and astronomy themed locations, events, conferences and scientific projects.
